"I Hate To Say It" — that's the thumbnail on Rick Beato's video "Why Only Rich Kids Make it in Music Today." As I listened, he went on about pop stars from wealthy families as if they are the only ones making music these days. Why would someone with a legitimate storybook career and heavy credentials go wading into this topic? Because nepotism in music hits a nerve.

This is like a university professor telling a class full of students who auditioned and earned their spot that they're hopeless. Older generations are quick to say it won’t work for “kids these days” or call them out for being lazy. “The Kids” are intelligent, hard working, and work by different means. The game is always changing. Older folks didn’t keep up. Now they need something to blame. Money and wealth are an easy target.

The Music Industry didn’t die in 2012. It changed.

Some of us still have life to live.
